Medical Prophylaxis Faculty was established in 1930 at the time of reorganization of medical faculty of Moscow University into the 1st Moscow Medical Institute. In 1935 it was renamed as Sanitary and Hygiene faculty, in 1992 – as Medical Prophylaxis Faculty.
Faculty intended to train sanitary inspectors (sanitarians and epidemiologist) was the first in history of the world medical education. The main objective of the specialists of this faculty is development of preventive trends in public health service.
The faculty has 15 chairs. About 600 students study annually at the faculty and the number of graduates is about 100 yearly.
