The required duration of the full-time university-level higher education programme for General Medicine is six years, for Pharmacy and Stomatology – five years. After it graduates take final examinations. On successful completion of the academic programs the graduates receive the State Diploma.

These Diplomas testify to the acquired higher medical (pharmaceutical) education and give the right to carry out professional activities. They enable the graduates to select their own way of professional perfection according to their skill and interests on the clinical training course (2-5 years), the Certificate of a Specialist. The graduates who have shown particular interest in theoretical biomedical and clinical sciences may enter the Ph.D. training course (3 years minimum) to defend the thesis.

The Diplomas may be awarded with Honours – for graduates with 95% “Excellent” grades and 5% “Good”.

Regulations for the award of degree conduct of examinations and course assessments

These regulations work during the whole period of studies. With a “Fail” or “Unsatisfactory” grade in practical course of every subject, the student does not have the right to sit for the examinations. With a “Fail” grade the examination must be taken for a second time and can be taken three times. The students are permitted to sit for the examinations in case the previous course is not completed, as well as to repeat them more than three times.

Before the opening of the final academic year the full theoretical and practical course must be completed satisfactorily. After completing the course of twelve semesters within six calendar years (Medicine) or ten semesters/five years students sit for the Final State Examination (June). The form of it is the written interdiscipline test and the oral examination with diverse grading in above mentioned subjects. Students who do not satisfy in one of these disciplines shall normally be deemed to have failed and be required to repeat the sixth year.
