Welcome to the English version of the official site of the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University – the oldest and most prestigious medical higher educational institution in Russia. The University traces its history since 1758 when the medical faculty was opened at the then Imperial Moscow University.
Since 1955 MSMU (before 1990 – First Moscow Medical Institute, 1990-2010 - Moscow Medical Academy) bears the name of Ivan Mikhailovitch Sechenov, great Russian physiologist and psychiatrist.
About 2 500 international students from over 70 countries are being trained now in general medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and other specialties. University provides all levels of education – from undergraduate to postgraduate, including internship, clinical residency, courses for specialised doctors, PhD and Doctorate.

Educational programmes
MSMU offers international students higher education programmes in General Medicine, Pharmacy and Stomatology (Dentistry). These programmes are catered by the University's highly qualified faculty and up-to-date facilities for training medical doctors and pharmacists.
Foundation Courses/Russian to Forigners Course
At this courses students learn Russian and study additional subjects: chemistry, biology and physics. After completion of studies they can apply to enter MSMU for undegraduate education. The Russian to Forigners course (R2F) is designed for those who need to aquire good command of the Russian language only. The duration of the courses is 9 months (from October 1 till June 31).
Postgraduate Courses
More than 40 chairs are offered for the postgraduate training. The training is conducted in Russian. Those PG students who want to continue their medical education in MSMU but has no knowledge of the Russian language can attend a one-year Russian to Forigners course.
Documents and terms
The academic year starts on September, 1 ( Foundation/R2F Course - on October, 1).
There are 2 semesters in an academic year: from September to January and from February to June.
